Porto Pianofest is an engine of cultural development,

dedicated to creating the most enjoyable musical experiences by presenting the highest-quality music to audiences local and abroad, and fusing the European and North American methods of music pedagogy through educational residencies.

With the piano as its core instrument, Porto Pianofest invites musicians from all over the world and in all stages of their career to perform, teach, learn, and build community. This is done primarily through our main summer event, held annually during the first week of August in Porto, Portugal.

We believe Porto is a unique cultural nucleus with extraordinary resources. The city is strategically located between Central Europe and the United States, and its arts scene is both progressive and steeped in tradition— as is the music our festival presents there. We aim to enhance the ever-growing artistic hub of Porto, and assist in strengthening Porto as a cultural destination within Portugal and abroad.

Nuno Marques is the Founder and Director of Porto Pianofest.

Founded in 2016, together with American pianist-composer Mariel Mayz, the festival as been rapidly establishing itself as an international reference for culture and the arts.

Our Goals

Porto Pianofest aims to be a global leader in arts, culture, and innovation. We strongly believe in the power of music to enhance peoples’ lives, spark creativity, engage in global conversation, and activate change.

Concerts, masterclasses, conferences

In parallel with its fantastic concerts series, Porto Pianofest presents a Masterclass and an Artist Residency Series.
This is a way to expand the global network of pianists, teachers, and students, as participants from around the world perform, practice, work, live, and create music together, allowing young pianists to work with a world class artist faculty.
